Between May 15 and 18, 2025, the National Student Mathematics Olympiad (NSMO 2025) was held in the city of Ruse, hosted by Ruse University “Angel Kanchev”.
This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Olympiad, which brought together more than 120 students from 18 higher education institutions in Bulgaria, divided into three groups according to their field of study.
In Group B, where competition was particularly intense this year, more than 40 contestants from Sofia University (SU), the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), the University of Economics – Varna, Plovdiv University, Shumen University, the University of Forestry, the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, South-West University, the American University in Bulgaria, and the Academy of the Ministry of Interior took part, organized into eleven teams. As is tradition, students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) of Sofia University also participated.
The students from FEBA achieved excellent results, winning two silver medals and one bronze medal, as well as third place in the team ranking and third place in the overall university ranking.
The medalists are:
- Samuil Ivaylov Mladenov, Economics and Finance, 2nd year – silver medal;
- Volodymyr Yevhenovych Shatalov, Business Administration, 1st year – silver medal;
- Stefan Nikolaev Markov, Business Administration, 1st year – bronze medal.
The students were trained and guided by Assoc. Prof. Vesselin Gushev, Assist. Vaya Rakidzi, and Assist. Danail Gushev.
