On November 11 and 12, 2022, the semifinals of the third edition of the prestigious international competition for students European Ethics Bowl (European Ethics Bowl) took place in Ljubljana under the auspices of the European Investment Bank. Students from leading universities in France, Germany, Slovenia, Belgium, Croatia, Luxembourg, Portugal, Serbia and Bulgaria participated in the competition. For the first year, Bulgaria participated with its own team – students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”: Georgi Gandev, Ivan Ruykov and Nikola Chakarov, fourth-year students in the bachelor's program “Accounting, Finance and Digital Applications”, and their mentor was Associate Professor Dr. Iya Petkova.

For over two days, the semi-finalists debated ethical dilemmas in the context of gender equality and ESG challenges facing businesses. In the contested competition, the teams were judged by a nine-member international jury.

“Ideas. Arguments. Respect for different opinions. Strong motivation, serious preparation and request for high professionalism were demonstrated by the teams in the competition”, commented Prof. Ivan Angelov, PhD, from department “Economic Management”, who was a judge in the competition.

With its strong performance in both case studies, the Bulgarian team qualified for the final, which will be held in Luxembourg at the European Investment Bank building on December 9, 2022.

Finalists for the European Ethics Bowl competition in 2022 are Portugal (ISCTE Business School), France (Université Paris Dauphine) and Bulgaria (Sofia University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration).
