From September 24 to 28, 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" hosted the summer school "Green Energy Transition", organized as part of the TWIN4ECO project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The event gathered around 30 PhD students, young researchers, and experts with a keen interest in energy transition, decarbonization, and renewable energy sources. Participants had the opportunity not only to explore the latest developments in the field but also to exchange knowledge with established professionals. The summer school offered an intensive five-day program focused on market mechanisms and modeling tools essential for building a sustainable and climate-neutral energy system.
The program featured lectures, practical sessions, and discussions led by renowned experts in energy and sustainable development, including Prof. Neven Duic, Prof. Juha Kiviluoma, Irena Beloreska, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Georgiev, and Chief Assist. Prof. Mariya Trifonova from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University. Participants also gained insights from specialists at leading technology companies, who demonstrated modern energy modeling systems such as PLEXOS, IRENA FlexTool, and MESSAGE.
As part of the summer school, a study visit was organized to the Boyana Hydropower Plant, a part of the National Electric Company (NEK EAD), where participants observed the practical application of sustainable energy technologies.
"Our goal is to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and to encourage young researchers in Bulgaria to work on sustainable and innovative solutions for the future of energy systems", said Assoc. Prof. Atanas Georgiev, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and leader of the TWIN4ECO project.
