Scientific Activities

Stoyan Shishkov is a professor at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", Faculty of Biology. He teaches molecular virology at the Bachelor's degree. In the master's degree, he lectures on viral replication, medical virology, therapy and prevention of viral diseases. He is the supervisor of PhD students in virology. His main scientific activity is related to the screening of substances of natural origin and those synthesized by molecular design. He participates in conducting molecular diagnostics of viral infections in humans. Another area of scientific interest is the inactivation of viruses by means of low-temperature plasma. Leads the development of a methodology for testing medical masks to protect against virus infection in the event of the coronavirus pandemic in the absence of international standards. All these activities have resulted in over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He holds two national patents for antiviral substances.
