26 members of the Academic Council voted for empowering Sofia University Rector to establish a group of lecturers and representatives of the student organizations, which to prepare Academia demands regarding swift and radical changes in science and higher education policies, towards overcoming the lagging behind which threatens to collapse education. The first step in this direction must be restoring state funding at the level of 2008 at the least.

The suggestions were deposited by Sofia University Rector, Prof. Ilchev, and were voted on after a long discussions of the Academic Council, which started at 4 p.m. today. "I have been struggling with people who wouldn't listen and openly lie, with few exceptions, for three years. We must be united in this situation, when we can be heard."

This was the spirit at the beginning of the Academic Council, which started by the address by the Bulgarian Patriarch, His Holiness Neofit, read by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Assoc. Prof. Aleksandar Omarchevski, "Wisdom, strength in these difficult moments of our country: let us be united and be ourselves."
