"The Vasil Levski's Living Archive and the Formation of a National Hero"

The promotion of Prof. Maria Todorova's last book filled up Hall 1 and attracted genuine interest in the audience.

Historians, students and scientists could receive an autograph by Prof. Todiorova, who has lived abroad for a long time.

She was a lecturer at the Faculty of History, now is a professor of History at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of the books "Bulgarian Identity - Nation and Memory", "The Balkans and Balkanism", "English travellers' notes about Bulgaria", etc.

The book "The Vasil Levski's Living Archive and the Formation of a National Hero" aims to establish the belief about the use of micro-history, the importance to know the local context when approaching the global topics in history and life. The work documents and analyzes the living archive of the only true and undisputed hero Bulgaria possesses Vasil Levski. It aims to lay the foundation for future local history comparative research and new approach to well-known facts and events.

The book contains 522 pages, published by "Paradigm"; translation Dimana Ilieva. It was presented by the Publishing House Director Mr Zheko Kushev and Prof. Ivan Radichev.

Prof. Todorova was awarded the Honorary Blue Ribbon Insignia and became Doctor Honoris Causa of Sofia University in 2004.
