"The strength is in the collective effort"

Demonstration of the resources
of the Centre for Simulation,
Business Processes and
3D Visualization

These were the words by Prof. Nedyu Popivanov marked the opening of the Centre for Simulation, Business Processes and 3D Visualization in the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Sofia University.

The project is realized with the support by Prof. Ovcharova, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, with partners Narvik Institute of Technology, Norway and Interconsult Bulgaria. The laboratory is to become the core around which established scientists to work in collaboration with young scientists, PhD students, post-docs and Master's Degree students thus improving the opportunities for human resource development. "Virtual Reality" is the next step for graphical representation of processes. The Centre will be supported by established resource in calculation and will be able to use the new Bulgarian super computer IBM Blue Gene/P, set as a road map signpost in the scientific infrastructure accepted by the National Assembly last Wednesday. The focus of the research in the Centre is not only the physical processes and phenomena but the business processes as well, i.e. the practical support of the theory.

Prof. Ilchev congratulated the colleagues and stated his grate appreciation of their enthusiasm in the difficult situation in which the University is, urging them to be even more active. The long expected rating of the higher educational institutions in Bulgaria was not made public and although Sofia University has been rated first in 19 of 21 branches no changes in funding it is proposed. The site of the Council of Ministers shows that the subsidy for education is the same up to 2013; in the case with Sofia University this means 40% less than the previous year.

Prof. Ilchev expressed his dissatisfaction with the media representatives who are interested in the dark news only. Two publishers only had sent their representatives for the event. The Rector also reminded of the scandal with the Criminal Laboratory of the University which attracted huge interest in the media, however not a single journalist asked for its quality and resources.
