About ten days ago the Toploficacia-Sofia stopped the hot water for Sofia University and its hostels because of the unsettled payment. As a result, a hot discussion between Alma Mater and the Ministry of Finance started over the subsidy for the University. The Rector answered before the newspaper Standard several questions on the possibilities for overcoming the crisis.

The Rector explained that the situation was as a result of the policy of giving a subsidy according to the number of students regardless of the expenses for supporting the library, highly qualified experts and other resources. He suggested the subsidy to be given according to the quality of education. He added that Sofia University students are well accepted abroad therefore the quality of their education is recognized. He announced his belief that the crisis can be overcome by reconsidering the future budgets.

He also commented on the admission this year, restating that if the subsidy had not been related to the number of students rather the quality of education delivered, the University would have been in a better position to select a higher quality of potential students to educate.
