Success in international forums for students from speciality Library and Information Science, Faculty of Philosophy

Students and lecturers from the Department of Library Sudies, Scientific Information and Cultural Policy became as a tardition part of an established fruitful collaboration at European level - 18th annual international student summer school (ISSS) on Cross-media, cross-national, cross-cultural: e-publishing across borders.

The beginning of this successful collaboration is related to the idea of removing the formal boudaries, developing new communicative skills, improving the language skills, etc., as well as establishing of an international network of professionals in the field of information management.

This year ten Bulgarian students took part in the event and they were partially funded by the Student Council and the Faculty of Philosophy. They were introduced to the cutting edge technology for electronic publishing, visisted leading publishers and libraries (Wolter Kluwer, Koninklijke Bibliotheek), discussed topics such as Internet piracy. The cultural programme included evenings of the different peoples, which was devoted to Bulgarian traditional dishes.

Between 24th and 26th September, the 10th international conference Book and Language in the Development of the Contemporary Society took place in Belgrade. Students and lecturers from the Department of Library Sudies, Scientific Information and Cultural Policytook part as co-coordinators. Special attention should be given to the presentations of the 4th-year students Stela Koleva, Teodora Staneva and Ivan Ivanov, who presented on „Traditional and electronic resources”. They defended successfully their ideas and demonstrated good knowledge and personal attitude towards the contemporary tendencies regarding the development, issuing, delivering and access to different information resources. The PhD student Poli Mukanova presented on Reading and readers in the First World war – a case with Bulgarian soldiers letters.
