"Our most important task is the good physical condition and health of the student" - these words by Assist. Prof. Andgelina Yaneva, Director of the Department of Sport opened the official awarding of the ten best student sports people and trainers lecturers
The awarded were Anna Popova - football, Miroslav Shabanski - fencingр Philip Draganov - athletics, Bilyana Dimitrova - volleyball; Marina Aleksandrova - swimming, Dimitar Turpanov - basketball, Zhivko Zhelev - football, Peter Kulenski - volleyball, Radoslava Kuzmanova - sport orienteering and Yavor Marinov - swimming.
Trainers of 2009 became Assist. Prof. Galin Popov - aerobics, Assist. Prof. Delcho Ilchev - basketball, and Assist. Prof. Georgi Nachkov - swimming. Lyudmil Simov, Chair of University Sports Club "Academic", was awarded for his contribution to the sports activities at Sofia University.
The limited funding and facilities did not prevent the university teams of successful performance in swimming, volleyball, and football.
