Sofia University hosts the 61st Assembly of the European Student Union

The 61st Assembly of the European Student Union took place between 8 and 12 November, 2011 in Bulgaria hosted by the National Represeantation of Student Councils and the Bulgarian Student Union.

The officials at the opening included Prof. Ivan Ilchev, Rector of Sofia University, Boyko Borisov, Prime Minister and Srgey Ignatov, Minister of Education, Youth and Science.

A workshop on "Equal access to higher education" is a paralel event as part of the project EQUNET, in which the European Student union (ESU) is a partner to MENON, SCIENTER, HIS, ZSI, CEPS, EURASHE. A number of speakers were invited to take part in the workshop, represeantatives of the EC, European High School Association, ESN, EURASHE, CEPS, UNICA, MENON, ENAR,EDEN, HERSC, MRGI, IGLYO. ESU represents more than 11 million students throughout Europe.

150 student representatives gathered in Sofia to discuss hot topics from the field of higher education. The programme for modernization lays the foundation of the higher education for the next years. Students are sceptical towards the offer for programme Erasmus Master Degree's Programmes through student loans, the latter are subject to benefits for the banks through the EU guarantees. Instead, the ESU would suggest a better system for student mobility sponsorship.
