Sofia University and the Botanic Garden in Balchik

Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" closes down symbolically on Monday.

Under the new development and after being informed about the discussions between Prof. Ivan Ilchev with the Premier Boyko Borisov, after a proposal for official discussion by Sergey Ignatov and Vezhdi Rashidov, and with sense of responsibility of a national institution, the Academic Council decided at a special session to close down symbolically Alma Mater until the session of the Council of Ministers next Wednesday. The executive authority in the person of the Premier undertook the commitment to solve the problem in favour of Sofia University. The desision was made public at an official press conference "Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and the Botanic Gardens, Balchik".

In case the Council of Ministers does not make a verdict in compliance with the European tradition of respect towards education, science and elite universities, the Academic Council will held a special session to discuss the coming into action of the decision of the Academic Council from 30th March, 2011 to put out of action the University.

Students of the Faculty of Biology will participate in a procession to the Botanic Gardens where they will have their academic classes.

The University Botanic Garden was established in 1955 under the management of Acad. Prof. D. Yordanov and the executive management of N. Minchev. The Garden and the research activity on its territory are of great importance for the development of the sciences related to the Earth which have great impact on the contemporary society.
