Round table on the problems of digitalization

The problems of digitalization and e-learning were discussed in the Rectorate.

The round table discussion was attended by representatives of various state and academic institutions involved in digitalization, such as Emil Stoyanov, member of the European Parliament, Asoc. Prof. Dr. Martin Ivanov, Head of the Archives State Agency, Orlin Kuzov, Director of ICT in Education Office of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science, Asoc. Prof. Petya Yaneva, Dr. Habil., Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, among others. The need for a state organization to coordinate the digitalization was announced as there are many institutions to work in the field and there has been a lot of projects to support the process of digitalization. The initiatives of designing electronic content are a priority in the scientific research of many departments at Sofia University, for example in the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology and the Faculty of History. The efforts of a number of faculties, as well as the SU Library, are focused on establishing a digital library for the University under several projects, one of which is SUDigital.

The fast development of technology facilitates these processes and provides an opportunity not only to digitalize but also to maintain quality. Initiatives such as Europeana provide also an opportunity for integration of the digitalized resources in a common framework and are subject of clear goals and policies.
