The official start of the reconstruction under the project "Reconstruction, modernization and energy efficacy measures in Sofia University campus Rectorate" was given in the underground of the University Library.
The ceremony included traditional rituals and a historic session, delivered by Dr Anna Angelova, Director of Sofia University Library. The current building of the library was built in 1933, suffered bombing during the WW II, when 15,000 of the 330,000 items were destroyed. In 1977 a substantial part of the items were relocated due to lack of space.
Prof. Ilchev, the Rector greeted the colleagues of the library for their labour on relocation and storage of the 600,000 items today, which were transferred from the containing rooms in order to prepare the latter for the reconstruction.
