The Rector, Prof. Ivan Ilchev met H.E. Mrs Marcie Ries, USA Ambassador to Bulgaria, and Dr. Mathew Burrows
This is the first visit paid by Dr. Mathew Burrows to Bulgaria, under the invitation by H.E. Mrs Marcie Ries, USA Ambassador.
The problems of the Bulgarian higher education were discussed during the meeting. Prof. Ilchev stressed that Sofia University is the only university with a choice among 25 professional fields.
The Rector also noted that the University has always been the corrective of the Bulgarian political power. He expressed his hope that the state support of education will increase. Ambassador Ries noted that the business has to support and invest in higher education.
After the meeting, the public lecture by Dr. Mathew Burrows on "Global tendencies 2030: Alternative worlds" was delivered in the Aula, organized jointly by the National Youth Forum and the Student Diplomatic Club, SU.
