Prof. Hristo Pimpirev waved the Bulgarian flag on the South Pole

Prof. Pimpirev and Mongolian Prof. Lhamsouren Dugerzhav left from Sofia to the South Pole via Frankfurt, Santiago de Chile and Punta Arenas on 29th December.

The weather is windy, with temperatures as low as -32oC. Pimpirev and Dugerzhav are heading back to Union Glaciar camp. Tomorrow the expedition is planned to return to Punta Arenas. They are members of an international expedition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the expeditions of Roald Amundsen and Robert Scott.

Prof Pimpirev is a lecturer at Sofia University and Antarctic researcher, Chair and founder of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. He is the first Bulgarian to set foot on the South Pole as a representative of the country.
