Press Conference on the Admission campaign 2009/2010

It became clear at the press conference at Sofia University, that the new moments in the campaign can be divided into four groups

1st group – admission tests taking part in advance, which double the chance of the applicants, will take place earlier than in last year's campaign. A new such exam was included: in Bulgarian Language and Literature. These exams will take place according to the schedule:

  • 5th April, 9:00 – Geography of Bulgaria
  • 12th April, 9:00 – Mathematics
  • 12th April, 15:00 – Journalism /written/
  • 26th April, 9:00 – History of Bulgaria
  • 26th April, 15:00 – Biology
  • 3rd May, 9:00 – Bulgarian Language and Literature

The forms must be submitted at the Student Affairs Office in the Rectorate, in the regional centres throughout the country, and online.

2nd group – 34 specialties will admit students without an admission test; the examination marks will be replaced by the school-leaving examinations (matriculations) and the related marks from the secondary school diploma.

3rd group - two new specialties were announced: Communications and Physics Electronics (Faculty of Physics) and Physical Activites and Sports (Faculty of Preschool and Primary School Education). The specialty Communications and Physics Electronics combines two fast developing areas: communication/ wireless and optical/ and physics electronics /vacuum, plasma and laser technology/. Graduates can work in the communication business, high technology mass production, scientific labs, etc. The specialty Physical Activites and Sports educates pedagogical staff for all levels of the Secondary Education. The Bachelor’s Degree allows its holders to become teachers, instructors, consultant-experts, managers in the sport field.

4th group – news on the examination mark structure – candidates who apply according to their school-leaving examinations (matriculations), receive a coefficient 2.5, these who take an admission test receive coefficient 3. Marks from national and international competitions will be accepted at different conditions, according to the Regulations. The candidates who have completed their secondary education at the Classical Lyceum and the National School for Mathematics and Science are admitted under special regulations. Candidates who have completed the seminars at minimum 5,00 grade can be admitted to the Faculty of Theology without and admission test.

Assoc. Prof. Maria Shishnjova, Vice-Rector, announced that Candidate-Student Open Days will take place for the second time on 5th, 6th and 7th March. The interested will be able to get informed on all questions concerning the admission at the University.

Documents for the admission tests taking part in advance must be submitted from 9th to 30th March, and for the regular campaign the candidates must submit the documents from 24th June to 5th July.
