НР broadened its Programme in Sofia University

Hewlett Packard Bulgaria announced the beginning of two new technology courses in the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University. The company donated equipment for a computer lab for BGN 100,000.

"A year ago, HP announced the recruitment of 2000 new highly qualified specialists for the Global Centre for Remote Services, Sofia. Then we promised to broaden the University Programme, which is a fact today and confirms the long term policy of the company to support the cutting-edge IT education for the young and talented people in Bulgaria", said Mr. Iravan Hira, General Manager of HP Bulgaria. The official ceremony was attended by Prof. Ivan Petkov, Vice-Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Ivan Soskov, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Krassimir Valchev, Chief Secretary, Ministry of Education, Youth and Science.

The courses in platforms, data bases and storage systems were designed with the methodology developed by HP specially for the Sofia University students. Three lecturers from HP will deliver the courses, which will last for one term. The courses are elective and willm be delivered in the specially equipped lab with 25 working places with the latest of the series HP Z200 Workstation, widescreen monitors and a beemer. This is the third laboratory for the Faculty donated by HP.
