Mineralogical Museum hosted the unique piece of the Tungus Meteorite

Sofia University is the only one out of the borders of Russia to have a piece of the Tungus meteorite, fallen in Siberia in June, 1908. The piece was delivered by the Rector, Prof. Ivan Ilchev, as a gift by the University of Krasnoyarsk.

The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Geology and Geography, Assoc. Prof. Filip Machev promised that his colleagues from Sofia University and the Bulgarian Academy of Science will be included in researching the nature of the strange rock.

The Tungus piece, together with a piece of rock changed as a result of the cosmic explosion were added to a collection of 38 meteorite pieces in the Museum. There are also samples from Australia, the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, from the largest meteorite crater in Germany, as well as local ones: from the villages of Debnevo and Gumistnik, the area of Troyan.
