Law and obeying the norms should not only be respected but become our personal cause

The 75th congress of the International Law Association was officially closed in the Aula of Sofia University

Official guests of the congress were Prof. Ivan Ilchev, Sofia University Rector, Mr. Nikolay Mladenov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lord Mance, Chair of the Executive Council of ILA, Prof. Alexander Yankov, President of ILA-Bulgarian branch and Mrs Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia. It was Mrs Fandakova to remind the audience that the Bulgarian state is founded on respecting the law; the famous Edict of Toleration was signed in Serdika, now Sofia, in 3rd c. BC, so law and obeying the norms should not only be respected but become our personal cause.

The congress gave the floor to discussions of great importance internationally, such as armed conflicts, nuclear power plants and environmental security, intellectual property and others. The Minister of Law, Mrs Diana Kovacheva set the accent on the international terrorism and expressed her regret that no country is completely secure.

Bulgaria was honoured to chair the ILA for the next two years, led by Prof. Alexander Yankov.
