Language policies Bulgaria - Europe

An international conference on the language policies and the European dimension of the education in the EU started on 11th November. The participants were addressed by the Rector, Prof. Ilchev, and H.E. Etienne de Poncins, Ambassador of France.

The language environment in Europe is of great interest for the researchers in the field of languages, cultures and identities. The issues of unity and diversity are becoming of importance.

The approach focused on the language policy has already been accepted by European and international organizations, including EC and EU. The issues of linguistic diversity, linguistic norm, social inclusion and equal opportunities, the support for the languages of the minorities and regional languages, the support for the less taught and used languages, etc. concentrate the effort and resources.

The conference is within the framework of the programme for scientific research "Educational Language Profile of Bulgaria" under the joint project of Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Education, and Faculty of Classical and Modern Languages. The main goal of the project is broadening and developing of the existing potential in the interdisciplinary research in the area of language policy, as well as establishing long term strategic partnerships in national and European context with leading research, scientific and other organizations in the field of language policy.
