Acad. Prof. Matey Mateev passed away in an accident on 25th July 2010.
Acad. Mateev was one of the most renowned Bulgarian physicists with significant contributions in the field of theoretical and mathematical physics and particle physics. He was a Head of Department of Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Physics; Dean of the Faculty of Physics; Vice-Rector of Sofia University, Minister of Education (1990-1991).
He is one of the pioneer scientists in the field of Bulgarian contribution to the work of the Swiss Institute for Nuclear Research CERN. Acad. Mateev was the Chair of the University Center for Space Research and Technologies, Vice-President of the Balkan Physical Union, Chair of the Bulgarian Physical Union.
Acad. Mateev was an outstanding lecturer who could explain the most complex issues as well as involve and encourage young people to work in the field of science. He was close to the young people and managed a friendly collaborative environment.
The Bulgarian academia will remember the scientist, colleague and friend!
