"Growth cannot be bought, it must be worked on"

The discussion devoted to the Day of Europe "Is the European project exhausted?" started today in the Aula.

The discussion was opened by the Chair of the Student Council Antoaneta Georgieva and the Rector, Prof. Ivan Ilchev. Among the official guests were Mr. Rosen Plevneliev, President of Bulgaria, Mrs. Kristalina Georgieva, Commissioner, Mr. Andrey Kovatchev, member of the European Parliament, H.E. H.E. Kaare E. Janson, Ambassador of Denmark in Bulgaria, representative of the EU chairman, H.E. Matthias Höpfner, Ambassador of Germany in Bulgaria, H. E. Karel van Kesteren, Ambassador of Netherlands.

Mr. Plevneliev cited the idea that Europe cannot be created by a single plan but rather step by step through social solidarity. He also stated that the difficulties Europe is currently experiencing are the foundation of a stronger and sustainable unity. The basic tools to fight the crisis are devotion and courage.

The answer the Commissioner gave to the question stated as a topic of the event was: no! She also asked the audience to speak up whenever they believe in the Union, so their voices to be heard.

Mr. Kovatchev united the positions by the popular statement "The answer to the crisis is More Europe!"
