H.E. Stefano Bassano, the Ambassador of Italy, started his lecture on diplomacy upon his very entering Hall 1: he sat among the students to share his experience.
He is a son of a diplomat, but he chose his career on his own. He completed his university education at the age of 21, and started his career as a journalist in order to gain experience.
H.E. Stefano Bassano shared his experience in gathering information, giving as an example his interest in Bulgarian current situation, which had led to reading about Bulgarian history. He believes that Bulgaria has always belonged to Europe, preserving her name for 13-14 centuries.
The students were introduced to the broad picture of diplomat's work: meetings, being informed about the news on the media reports; then the desire to improve and introduce innovations beyond the traditional responsibilities.
H.E. Stefano Bassano commented on the relations between Bulgaria and Italy, which ave similar problems with the mafia, and corruption, and he expressed his belief that the two countries could face these problems together. He ended his lecture by the words: „Go abroad, study and then – come back!”. The students showed their interest in the Italian investments and in the problem with the small number of well prepared teachers of Italian in Bulgaria.
