First collisions of heavy ions of CMS

Collisions of stable streams of heavy ions were detected by the control center of LHC on 8th Nov. at 11:20.

"We are really excited to detect the first heavy ions collisions in the CMS detector. The data will allow us to research hot matter at higher temperatures than we were able to research on until now" said the executive manager of the databases of CMS heavy ions Bouleck Wieslouc. " I am really happy for the doctoral students and physicists who worked hard to prepare the CMS for the collisions."

Sofia University physicists and scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences participate in the establishments and exploitment of the CMS detector. The new results have been achieved with their active participation. Their work is funded by the Ministry of Education, Sciences and Youth, contract Д01-757/20.12.2008 (managed by Assoc. Prof Leander Litov (SU) and senior res. fellow Vladimir Genchev (BAS))
