Doctor Honoris Causa

Prof. Ronelle Alexander, University of California, Berkeley was awarded the honorary degree Doctor Honoris Causa on 18th May.

Faculty of Slavic Studies initiated the awarding in acknowledgment of her widely renowned works in the field of Bulgarian Studies, Slavic Studies, Balkan Studies as well as her contribution to popularization of Bulgarian language in the USA. She received a honorary diploma as well as Honorary Blue Ribbon Insignia.

Her monographs, papers, reports and reviews rank her among the greatest scholars in the sphere of South-Slavic languages, culture and folklore. The work with strongest impact is her Bulgarian Language Grammar, issued in two volumes in 2002, which aims at practical language learning and contains original interpretations.

The speech delivered by Prof Alexander was on "Traditions and Heritage Today".
