Cultural diversity and social unity - the Canadian practice

The 5th international conference on "Cultural diversity and social unity - the Canadian practice" of the Central-European Association for Canadian Studies was opened in the Aula, on 16th October.

103 scientists from 17 countries took part in the forum, hosted by the Bulgarian Association for Canadian Studies.

The Vice-Rector Vladimirov noted in his address that the topics of the conference are extremely important and complex as they deal with language and ethnic diversity, as well as with preserving identity in the Globalization Era.

HE Ambassador of Canada Philip Bon thanked for the interest in Canada. He also noted the importance of managing the processes of intercultural integration and religious diversity tolerance for their working towards common prosperity.

The conference includes such topics as social integration of the ethnic minorities, the problems of the multicultural society and language policy in Canada, the literature dimension of the Canadian people, finding the roots of the Canadian identity, etc.

Addresses were presented by the Minister of Education, Yordanka Fandakova, the Minister of Culture, Vezhdy Rashidov, and the President of the International Association for Canadian Studies, Prof Klaus-Dieter Ertler.
