"Bulgaria can transform in a government of law"

H.E. Etienne de Poncins, Ambassador of France delivered an open lecture in the Aula on 14th May.

The event was a joint initiative of the Students' Diplomatic Club of the Faculty of Law and the Students' Council. H.E. Etienne de Poncins addressed the audience and expressed his belief that the experience should be valued and shared in the field of diplomacy.

The Ambassador commented on the past and the future of the relations between Bulgaria and France. He also pointed out the role of two important figures of Victor Hugo and Alfphonse de Lamartine, as well as the fact that last year was the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

H.E. the Ambassador mentioned the period until the 90s as la time of lost opportunities, followed by a period of good relations in the newest history. The diplomatic support of France was mentioned as a factor of acceptance of Bulgaria in NATO and EU. The increased economic activity was also an issue, what was mentioned was the establishment of French goods on the Bulgarian market, as well as the interest in investments.

The French point of view of the perspectives before Bulgaria was discussed as final remarks, with the strong points of the Bulgarian diplomacy in the South East Europe pointed out.

The lecture ended by an interesting and fruitful discussion, during which the diplomat expressed his opinion that Bulgaria can transform into a government of law despite the 50-year totalitarian regime.
