Sofia University Theatre was established in 1968. It was closed down due to ideology reasons, then reopened almost 30 years later. It was renewed by its founder, the director Nikolay Georgiev, who has always been among the pioneers of the Bulgarian experimental theatre. Theatre "Alma Alter" researches and digs in the foundations of the contemporary means of expression. The theatre is highly interactive and the audience takes a main role in all performances, which makes each performance unique. It has gained a place in Bulgarian cultural life presenting an alternative of the conventional theatre.
The first performance was "Either or", which took place on 26th January, 2001.
