Acad. Nikolay Bogolyubov: a world-renowned mathematician and physicist

A conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Russian scientists Nikolay Nikolaevich Bogolyubov's birth started in Sofia University Aula. It is organized by Sofia University, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Union of the Physicists in Bulgaria, and the Nuclear Regulatory Agency of the council of Ministers.

The programme included the presentations by Prof. Pavel Nikolaevich Bogolyubov, Dr. Habil., Nikolay Bogolyubov's son, Corresponding Member Grigory Dmitrievich Shirkov - Head Engineer of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna (Russia), Prof. Matey Mateev, physicists from Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Faculty of Physics.

Acad. Nikolay Bogolyubov was a Russian physicist, mechanic and mathematician; he was the Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna. His work was in the field of the quantum field theory, he formulated the Microscopic Theory of Superconductivity.

Acad. Bogoljubov's school has a lot of followers in Bulgaria, such outstanding scientists as Prof. Mateev, Prof. Todorov, Prof. Tonchev, Prof. Zlatev, Prof. Brankov, and others.
