A monument dedicated to the distinguished English scientist Charles Darwin will be officially opened in the Botanic Gardens, Balchik on 27th July.The event took place on the day of the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth.
The monument is in the new part of the Botanic Gardens, on the Founder's alley. The event was attended by the special guests Assoc. Prof. Maria Shishnyova, Vice-Rector of Sofia University, Assoc. Prof. Peter Zhelev, Vice-Rector of the University of Forestry, Assoc. Prof. Plamen Mitov, lecturer at Sofia University, Assoc. Prof. Darwin Ivanov, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Medical University, Dr Mariana Philipova, Chair of the Bulgarian Botanical Association. It was also attended by students, intellectuals, representative of Direction "Preselected Territories", many visitors.
The guests could join a guided tour aroun the Gardens after the ceremony.
