24th May: the Day of the Alphabet, Bulgarian Education and Culture

A solemn procession on the Day of the Alphabet, Bulgarian Education and Culture.

The Sofia University Academic Council took part in the procession. The official ceremony started in front of the monument of Sts Cyril and Methodius, by a speech delivered by Prof. Valery Stefanov. The celebration in the Aula was led by a speech by Prof. Ivan Ilchev, Rector of Sofia University, followed by the academic speech by Assoc. Prof. Petya Yaneva, Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology.

The Academic Celebration dedicated to 24th May was followed by giving the awards to the winners of the 5th National Literature Competition for Short Story and Poem supported by foundation St. Kliment Ohridski. The award for poetry was given to Rosen Rachev for the poem "On translating poetry", and the short story winner was Preslav Ganev for the story "Brother". Rosen is an MA student at the Faculty of Slavic Studies, and Preslav studies at the Faculty of Philosophy.

The celebration ended by a musical programme delivered by the students of the Faculty of Preschool and Primary School Education.
