150th anniversary of the Easter Action

3rd April marks the 150th anniversary of the Easter Action: during the official church service in the Bulgarian church St Stefan in Constantinopole Metropolitan Ilarion Makariopolski for the first time did not mention the name of the Universal Greek Patriarch, but instead mentioned "each orthodox episcopy", as only the representative of an autonomuos church was allowed to say at that time.

A Jubilee session was held today in the Aula as a joint initiative of Sofia University, Archive State Agency, the National Library, the National Museum of History, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Scientific Archive, Church-Historic and Archive Institute of the Bulgarian Patriarchy, and the National Church Museum of History and Archeology.

The session was opened by Prof. Ivan Ilchev, Rector, who noted that the contemporary governors owe their positions to this single historic act and must remember it. Prof. Bakalov, Chairman of the Archive State Agency, also noted that this act was a recognition of the Bulgarian nationality and must be acknowledged.

A report about the Easter Action was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Plamen Mitev, Dean of the Faculty of History.
