Sofia and the University were elaborately decorated for the celebrations. Students’ access to the University building was limited during the festivities. The Jubilee Committee was Prof. Archpriest Dr. Stefan Tsankov – chair, Faculty of Theology; Prof. Dr. Michail Arnaudov, Faculty of History and Philology, Prof. Dr. Lubomir Chakalov (Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Prof. Dimitar Silianovski, Faculty of Law; Prof. Dr. Toshko Petrov, Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Ivan Stranski, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry; Prof. Dr. Georgy Pavlov, Faculty of Vet Medicine. Eight more committees were engaged with the traveling, protocol, etc. Most of the guests arrived on 20th May, 1939, for the Gala reception for the opening, held in the hall of the Academy of Sciences. The total number of guests was 162, 114 of whom were the official representatives. 81 foreign universities were presented, in addition to 11 higher educational institutions, 15 academies of sciences, 18 scientific institutions and associations, and others. Prof. Archpriest Dr. Stefan Tsankov addressed the guests, and the speech was translated in French, German, English and Italian. A representative and a spokesmen for the foreign delegates were appointed.
