Prof. Pavel Pavlovitch Presents in Rabat the Volume “The Role of the Arabic Language in Cultural and Commercial Exchanges along the Silk Roads”

On 24.06.2024, professor Pavel Pavlovitch presented the volume “The Role of the Arabic Language in Cultural and Commercial Exchanges along the Silk Roads” at a scholarly conference in Rabat. This volume and the conference are part of a trilateral collaborative project involving UNESCO, the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation, and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

The project aims to outline the role of the Arabic language in fostering dialogue between cultures and highlight its contribution as a bridge between civilizations along the Silk Roads, promoting the exchange of trade, ideas, and knowledge. The volume features contributions from established experts in the history, economics, languages, and cultures of East- and Central Asia, the Arab World, and North Africa.

Prof. Dsc. Pavel Pavlovitch, a member of the Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies, Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology (FCMP), Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is a lead author and scientific editor of the volume. Prof. Pavlovitch teaches Medieval Arabo-Islamic Civilization and Arabic Sources at FCMP and History of Islam at the Faculty of History.

The presentation event was attended by Dr. Salim M. Almalik, Director-General of ICESCO, Mrs. Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Dr. Salih Alkholaifi, Director-General of the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation, Mr. Plamen Tzolov, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria in Morocco, Mr. Eric Falt, Director of the UNESCO Office in Rabat, and other distinguished guests.
