Program Description

Since the academic year 2008/2009, a new Bachelor (BSc) program has been opened – “Chemical Engineering and Contemporary Materials”. This is a modern program, aimed to prepare highly educated personnel in an interdisciplinary field, comprising expertise in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. The graduated bachelor students receive an extensive practical skills and theoretical knowledge for the development of high-tech processes, and also for obtaining, characterization and application of new advanced materials.

This education program aims to prepare highly qualified specialists who could continue their education in the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy (e.g. in the master program “Disperse Systems in Chemical Technology”) or in other MSc programs in the areas of Chemistry and Physics, also they could work in corporate research institutes, universities, manufacturing companies or to develop their own business in the field of synthesis and processing of contemporary materials. The lecture courses are developed on the basis of cooperation with international companies like BASF, DOW Corning, Saint Gobain, Unilever, Nestle, Kraft.

Opportunities for professional realization:

Future bachelors in the major “Chemical engineering and Contemporary materials” are trained for the following activities:

  • As scientific researchers in Bulgarian and foreign universities and institutes: Max Plank Institute (Germany), University of Hull (England), North Carolina State University (USA), Sofia University, Bulgarian Academics of Sciences etc.;
  • In the research departments of Bulgarian or international companies, such as BASF, Unilever, Nestle, Kraft, DOW Corning, Procter & Gamble, Henkel, Actavis, Saint Gobain (Weber) and others;
  • For developing their own business in the manufacturing and applications of modern functional materials.

The admission of students for major “Chemical Engineering and Contemporary Materials” is performed by successfully passed entrance exam or with an assessment from the high-school exit examination of Chemistry and Environmental Protection, Physics or Mathematics. Also can be applied the mark from Olympiad and national competitions in Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics.
