On December 2, 2021, we were pleased to welcome Prof. Stephanie Stancheva of Harvard University, who gave an online lecture on income and social inequalities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her lecture, Prof. Stancheva touched upon the main inequalities arising from the current crisis and presented a matrix of economic policies on which short-term and long-term measures can be taken to overcome inequalities. Her lecture focused on shocks to employment by country groups, the digitalisation of the economy and the ability of tax and education policies to reduce income inequality.

The moderator of the online lecture was Prof. Dr. Stefan Petranov, a longtime lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and head of the Department of Economics 2012-2020.

The online lecture was part of the events related to the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the Department of Economics at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”.
