INSAIT Develops AI System for Predicting Wildfire Risk Across Europe

A system developed by INSAIT uses artificial intelligence to predict wildfire risk across Europe, providing governments with data for prevention and human-understandable explanations. FireScope AI is the first system of its kind and has been developed by the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University ranks 1st in Eastern Europe and 4th in EU by number of accepted papers at the world’s most prestigious conference in computer vision and AI. The Bulgarian research institute has 17 accepted papers at CVPR 2026, one of the most significant events in the field of AI globally.

Africa Day 2026 at Sofia University Highlights the Diversity of African Cultures and the Role of International Cooperation

On 21 May 2026, Africa Day 2026 was solemnly celebrated at Sofia University. The event was organized by the Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies at the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology together with the Embassies of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Morocco, and in cooperation with the BA Program in African Studies. Alongside students and faculty members, the ceremony held in the packed Aula Magna was attended by numerous ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and state institutions.
