The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski” will implement the TWIN4ECO twinning project with 100% grant funding in the amount of BGN 2 697 727,18 from the National Recovery and Resiliency Plan with an implementation period until May 2026. The contract for the funding was signed on 13.12.2023 by Sofia University and by the Executive Director of the Executive Agency "Education Programme" at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The leader of the project team is the Dean of FEBA Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev. TWIN4ECO is the largest single project for which FEBA has won grant funding since 1990.

The funding is for the implementation of the investment with Reg. No. BG-RRP-2.005-0001 "Twinning for scientific excellence: Stimulating sustainable energy economy and promoting research in the field of innovation management in Bulgaria" (TWIN4ECO) and is following a decision to award funds under the procedure through direct award of proposals for the implementation of investments with Reg. No. BG-RRP-2.005 "Building Connections (TWINING)" under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of 16.11.2023.

In accordance with Article 22 of the Decree No. 114 of 8 June 2022 laying down detailed rules for the allocation of funds to final beneficiaries of the Recovery and Sustainability Mechanism, the specific final beneficiaries of the procedure are the applicants that received a high score "above the thresholds" from the EC but did not receive European funding. In the application procedure to the EC, the highest score from Bulgaria was also awarded to Project Proposal No. 101079186, Twinning for Excellence. The project is coordinated by FEBA, Sofia University.

The partners of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in the implementation of the activities are 4 leading European research universities:
- University of Cologne with its Institute for Energy Economics (Energiewirtschaftliches Institut an der Universität zu Köln - EWI)
- Vienna University of Technology with its Institute of Energy Systems and Electrical Drives (EEG)
- University of Groningen
- Technological University of Dublin

The project has the following 2 main scientific objectives:
1) Developing a model of energy systems
2) Dissemination of innovative sustainable practices and new energy technologies
