Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski” and Izmir Kâtip Celebi University  are going to sign an international agreement

Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski” (SU), Sofia, Bulgaria and Izmir Kâtip Celebi University, Izmir, Tukey are going to sign an international agreement on cooperation in mathematics and informatics. The signing of a framework and Erasmus+ agreement was initiated after a visit of the Turkish colleagues from Izmir Kâtip Celebi University to SU at the invitation of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) of SU.

On October 17, 2023 in the Rectorate of SU a meeting took place between the Turkish colleagues from the International Cooperation Department, Finance Department, Public Relations Department, Social and Cultural Activities Department, Secretary of Izmir Kâtip Celebi University, with the International Cooperation Department of SU, representatives of the Department of Information Technologies, FMI of SU, Center of Information Society Technologies (CIST) of SU.

On October 19, 2023, a meeting took place at the FMI of SU between the Turkish guest colleagues, the dean's management of the FMI, the Erasmus+ program team for the FMI, representatives of the Department of Information Technology (IT) and the Department of Mathematics and Informatics Education (OMI), the FMI of SU, the CIST of SU. The UNITE (Universities for Science, Informatics and Technologies in eSociety) Centre of Excellence was presented at the meeting and the guests were offered the opportunity for future collaboration in the field of science.

The visit was aimed at developing scientific and educational relations and it was initiated by the IT Department and the OMI Department, FMI of SU, who are working closely with colleagues from Izmir Kâtip Celebi University on an international Erasmus+ project "Multicultural Classrooms: Inclusive Learning and Teaching in Classrooms", "Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education" (2022-1-TR01-KA220-HED-000085687). CIST of SU and the Department of IT have a 15-year partnership with teams under the leadership of Dr. Emin Bakay (Izmir Kâtip Celebi University) in a number of international projects such as GINCO, CATCH21, MultiClass and others.

The agreement is expected to provide for exchanges of students, faculty and researchers between the two universities, as well as joint research initiatives and participation in conferences.
