The Faculty of Education became a separate faculty in 1986. This fact should be regarded as the beginning of the newest stage of its impressive history which began in October 1888 when the Higher Pedagogical Course (in the present building of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication) was launched. This Higher Pedagogical School was later to become the first Bulgarian University.

The Faculty of Education is dedicated entirely to secondary and higher education and social work.

Every year over 1300 students from Bulgaria and other countries study in our bachelor, master and PhDs programmes. Following their interests and future career plans most of them don’t miss the opportunity to take part in the faculty’s fundamental and applied research projects, EU mobility programs, national and international seminars and summer schools as well as in the numerous students’ organizations and cultural and sports events.

The students can rely on the assistance, partnership and expertise of our highly qualified academic staff. The Faculty of Education keeps on the oldest Bulgarian university tradition to attract the best Bulgarian scholars. Our professors, associate professors and assistant professors have specialized in prestigious EU universities and leading universities from Russia. They are at the forefront of educational and social work debate and enquiry in Bulgaria and the Balkans and take active part in this debate in Europe. Our academics are engaged in several national and international research projects and are in great demand as lecturers, consultants, experts or trainers throughout Bulgaria. We have guest lecturers from leading EU universities.
