Association of International Students at Sofia University (AISSU)

The Main Goals are:

• providing international students with administrative guidance, by assisting them to select suitable courses judged on by their field of study and interest, by guiding them how to adapt to the university’s life and policies, and by introducing them to the curricula as well as by consulting them on all possible academic questions;
• organizing roundtable discussions and debates and selecting suitable or interesting topics;
• arranging social activities and events.

The Purpose of the Association is to:

• facilitate the University’s recruitment of prospective international students;
• advertise the educational system in Bulgaria and Sofia University as its most prestigious institution of higher education;
• play an integral part in the bridge between the international students and the university as a whole;
• create a friendly atmosphere and healthy environment for the transitional process that occurs to every international student studying abroad;
• initiate conferences and roundtable meetings which will aim at addressing and problematizing contemporary, international socio-political issues with the participation of keynote speakers who are considered to be experts in their fields of study and research and the involvement of those who would want to be enlightened by such talks.

The Mission of the Association is to:

• unite all the various cultures as well as promote understanding and acceptance of cultural differences;
• establish a support system amongst international students;
• promote the spirit of togetherness, unity, friendship, equality, and diversity;
• develop leadership skills, have fun, meet new people, and enjoy your college life;
• bring elements from our unique and richly diverse cultural backgrounds and share them among the students at a cultural, academic, and social level;
• promote multicultural and multi-ethnic events;
• help international students with their transition to a new culture;
• build international understanding and integrity.
