DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY

Counseling psychology is aimed at optimizing personal and interpersonal functioning over the life cycle.

The proposed program aims at acquiring basic theoretical and methodological knowledge and practical skills needed to perform psychological support activities aimed at improving mental health and optimizing personal and social functioning.
The curriculum reflects contemporary views on psychological counseling, both in content and methodological and procedural aspects.

Existing training programs in counseling psychology at master's level and specializations are realized mainly in the context of one of the two models - clinical or educational. The doctoral program offers training in both directions, which enables the acquisition of knowledge and skills in a wide range of activities.

The learning outcomes are oriented towards the growing needs of the country to receive psychologically competent assistance in the field of: prevention of health damage caused by drug use; trafficking of human beings; working with children at risk and their families etc.

The doctoral program offers a wide range of theoretical orientations, research interests and practical experience. The expected result is the acquisition of:

  • Knowledge and skills in the field of psychological research methods, including quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Ability to understand, develop and apply the model of psychological research that enables to reach new knowledge about the essence of human experiences and relationships.
  • Ability to critically assess the theories, practices and research that constitute counseling psychology.
  • Acquiring a set of skills that can be transferred to different contexts that enhances professional competitiveness.

The practical module enables the acquisition of competence in the application of different counseling practices- formulation and conducting of individual case, analysis of the results.
The doctoral program is designed to meet different societal needs, both through the integration of theory and practice and through the personal and professional growth of the learners.
