The European Studies doctoral programme aims at:
- Training researchers and lecturers for the needs of the European Studies Department at Sofia University as well as of relevant departments at other universities.
- Training European integration specialists, particularly in the fields of law, economics, information and media studies, cultural studies, political science.
- Training teachers for the needs of non-university education institutions where European integration is studied.
- Training specialists for the needs of overlapping scientific fields where the educational process requires that history and the current developments in Europe be taught.
These aims are accomplished by:
- Involving doctoral students: a) in the learning process as students until they pass the required doctoral minima; b) in the teaching process as part-time lecturers in the department.
- Providing participation in doctoral seminars as part of the students’ curricula.
- Involving doctoral students in national and international projects.
- Providing assistance to students to conduct research activities in thematically relevant institutions and organizations.
- Publication of doctoral research papers.
