Research and publications of members of the Department of Ancient History, Thracian Studies and Medieval History cover an enormous chronological and thematic range - ancient Greece and Rome, history of the crusades, of the Arabs and Islam, the feudal monarchies, etc. Of special importance are lecture courses in the history of Hellenism and thеse in Thracian Studies in particular - areas in which Bulgarian historiography has established traditions and occupies its due place in Europe. The students in the Department work in a Circle on Ancient History and Thracian Studies. Since 1997 the Department organizes international symposia Jubilaeus within the May Days of Culture at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
