Total Energy Summer School 2016 took place from 10th to 13th July in Fontainebleau, France. At the summer school 85 students from around the world, selected from over 6700 applicants, joined leading academics from Total Professorial and Research Chairs programs and Total partner universities for four days of interactive learning and discussions. Bulgaria was presented by 2 students from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Faculty of Geology and Geography (Borislava Borisova – Geology Master year 2 and Simona Simeonova – Geology Bachelor year 4) and 2 from MGU “St. Ivan Rilski”. Total representatives from across energy businesses, as well as external experts joined this unique event together with students.
All workshops and discussions were focused on new global energy challenges and their impact on the sector and the world of education. During this biggest event in Total’s education calendar the participants explored how industry and education can work together to prepare students with the skills they will need for the new energy future.
The students were divided in 9 teams thinking about how academics, young people and industry can be committed to better energy. Bulgarian students, among all others, successfully brainstorming on 3 challenges: 1. Better, More Efficient Energy; 2. Classroom of the Future; and 3. The Power of Diversity. Eventually, the 3 team finalists presented their ideas in front of the Total jury.
The winner team, with Sofia University student Borislava Borisova, defended the idea of The Power of Diversity and how it can make the difference an advantage in the world of energy deficiency.
