The new academic year at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” begins with a series of public lectures dedicated to entrepreneurship and leadership in the energy sector.
On October 10, 2025 (Friday) at 1:00 PM in Room 315, a lecture will be held on the topic “Designing Energy: How Aesthetics and Innovation Can Democratize Solar Power”, delivered by Rita Gomes, founder of Seenergy and winner of the prestigious EUSEW Woman in Energy Award 2024.
As an architect and entrepreneur, Rita Gomes offers a fresh perspective on solar energy by combining design and technology. In her work, she integrates dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) into furniture and everyday objects. This approach enables the generation of clean energy indoors and in low-light conditions, while placing aesthetics and usability at the core of the solution. The lecture will explore how design can expand access to renewable energy and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. It will also address existing financial incentives for entrepreneurs, the challenges of leadership, and the cost of success along the way.
Rita Gomes is an architect with more than a decade of experience in sustainable architecture and environmental policy. In 2023, she founded Seenergy—a startup that combines renewable energy with design innovation to create furniture and household objects powered by solar energy. Her achievements have been recognized with the 1st Prize at the EIT Jumpstarter 2023 (New European Bauhaus) and the EUSEW Woman in Energy Award 2024.
The lecture is free of charge and open to current and former students.
