This year's edition of the traditional summer school for doctoral students and advanced masters was held for the 8th consecutive year, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the German Engineering and Industrial Management Faculty of Technical University – Sofia, and the University of National and World Economy. The main organizers are Assoc. Prof. Angel Marchev, Jr. Assoc. Prof. Kaloyan Haralampiev, Assoc. Prof. Alexander Efremov, and Assoc. Prof. Boryana Bogdanova. Lecturers were professors from 4 universities from the USA and Bulgaria, as well as a number of researchers from leading high-tech companies.
A total of 20 post-graduate students from 4 different Bulgarian universities participated in the classes. The training was conducted in an intensive mode for 10 consecutive days from 26th August to 4th September with classes in the field of fundamental areas of systems theory and cybernetics, probability theory, statistics, machine learning. Workshops on modern applied algorithms for modeling complex systems were also held.
As part of the training, students solved three current business cases for analysis and modeling of complex systems and, as in previous years, the Summer School ended with their presentations and discussions on their solutions. Fifteen of the participants successfully achieved a certificate, while for four of them this was simultaneously successfully passed doctoral exam from their individual PhD curriculum.
