At a Gala Dinner on January 24, 2025, in central London, one of the most prestigious events in the world of business education celebrated the success of business schools with the best initiatives in several key areas. The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” was a finalist at the prestigious AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2025 in the “Best Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion Initiative” category. The faculty was among the five shortlisted nominees out of 228 applications.
This recognition is the result of a successful partnership with the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria and Lidl Bulgaria in organizing the country's first certified Academy for "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion". The academy focuses on developing skills for creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. It has become a platform for knowledge and experience exchange, bringing together representatives from the business sector, academia, and NGOs. This recognition confirms the significance of the initiative and its contribution to corporate culture development in Bulgaria.
The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev, Vice-Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Angelov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iya Petkova, and Gergana Manolova, a PhD student at the faculty, representative of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria, and initiator of the program.
“This recognition motivates us to continue developing the initiative and contribute to building a fairer and more inclusive society”, said Assoc. Prof. Georgiev after the event. “This partnership is an example of how business, academia, and society can work together to achieve common goals”, he added.
A week ago, the third edition of the program began. The academy is a sustainable initiative that enjoys great interest, and by April, the number of graduates will reach nearly 70.
