From October 1 to 4, 2024, the city of Burgas hosted the Annual Conference of the Bulgarian Nuclear Society (BgNS), titled "Nuclear Energy for People" with international participation. Representing Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" was a team led by Assoc. Prof. Plamen Petkov, consisting of the following students from the Faculty of Physics: Deborah Miteva, Petar Hristov, and Tsvetelina Yordanova, all 4th-year undergraduate students majoring in "Nuclear Techniques and Nuclear Energy". Also part of the team was Todor Stefanov, an undergraduate student in "Engineering Physics".

Additional members of the team included Petar Tukhchiev, a 4th-year undergraduate student majoring in "Chemistry" at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, and Angel Chalakov (Acibadem City Clinic University Hospital Mladost), a graduate student in the newly developed program "Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations", a joint initiative of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Physics.

BGNS

All students participated in the competition for best poster/presentation. The jury included Prof. Pavlin Grudev, from the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at BAS, and Chairman of the Program Committee of BgNS; Assoc. Prof. Kalin Filipov, from TU-Sofia and member of the Program Committee of BgNS; and Assoc. Prof. Mladen Mitev, from TU-Sofia and Chairman of BgNS.

Following a highly competitive contest, two first prizes were awarded to Sofia University participants:

  • Best poster on the topic "Study of Protective Shell Development for STAR-PLUS(M) Containing Sacrificial Material", presented by Petar Tukhchiev.
  • Best poster on the topic "Development of Ga-68 Radiopharmaceuticals at Acibadem City Clinic University Hospital Mladost", presented by Angel Chalakov.
